A stunning native garden
Inverawe Native Gardens and Nature Trails is
15 minutes south of Hobart at Margate and is
Tasmania’s largest landscaped native garden
open to the public.
More than 7000 natives have been planted
and that’s not including the tens of thousands of
plants that regenerate naturally on the garden’s
9.5 hectare site.
It includes semi-formal areas, open forest and
lightly timbered parklands.
Inverawe is designed to be in harmony with
the environment and to do all those things a
good garden should inspire, relax, stimulate and
The garden winds around the shores of North-
West Bay and features more landscaped native
gardens, nature trails, stunning views and
abundant bird life.
Gardeners Bill and Margaret Chestnut have
also worked at restoring lightly-timbered
parklands by removing exotic weeds.
The gardens are at 1565 Channel Highway,
Margate, and are open from 9am till 6pm seven
days a week.
An entry fee applies.
